menhir bench

The MenhirBENCH is designed by Dirk Vander Kooij for a public park commissioned by the municipality of Zaandam (NL) in cooperation with Studio Klarenbeek Dros.

The Menhir bench sees the coalescence of disparate synthetic sources. Evolving to fulfill new, stone-like consequence: refrigerator interiors, lawn furniture, and rejected prototypes realign as grains, veins, and strata. These machine-deposited molten masses merge and solidify into indestructible slabs. Arranged in a calculated balance, the final design conjures images of standing stones. Playful and indiscriminate patterning softens the gravity of the bench. In its intended outdoor setting, reclaimed plastic fossilizes into flowers, graffiti, and calcified gum.

The menhir bench is available in four asymmetrical variations: measuring 160cm or 240cm in length, with an optional backrest.

This product is suitable for outdoor use. Please note, however, that extended exposure to sunlight may cause slight discolourations.
