The Tree Trunk Chair may seem like an innocent design, but it is the result of a determination not to throw anything away. Taking the material as it is, doing as little as possible to it and giving it an important role in the end product is almost always the starting point for Piet's designs. It only came to him later that this principle had been carried to extremes with this design.

With this chair, Piet Hein Eek makes it possible to place the wooden parts at the right angle, creating the desired seating comfort. The back legs of the chair can only be made with pieces of wood that have been bent in the right way. Just as in the past, the ribs of a boat or the trusses of a roof were made from selected trees. This means that the chair cannot simply be made in any quantity and whenever you want.
