The Voido Rocking Chair was designed by Ron Arad for the manufacturer Magis.
A sculptor and architect as well as a designer, Israeli-born Arad has worked both in Italy and the UK during his long career. His aesthetic is radically experimental, resulting in pieces that are boldly innovative. In addition to developing products for many high-profile clients, he has taught at the Royal College of Art in London. He was recently elected as an Academician at the RA in London.
A characteristic example of the designer's conceptual approach, the Voido Rocking Chair from Magis blurs the boundaries between luxury furniture, abstract sculpture and mobile art installation. Measuring 78 cm in height, 58 cm in width and 114 cm in length, it is made from moulded polyethelene and is available in a choice of monochrome hues, most of which are suitable for outdoors as well as indoors. With its twisted, figure of eight shape, it is perfectly poised to be set in motion with a gentle push of the hand or the sitter's foot. Certain to deliver a huge visual impact, the Voido Rocking Chair makes an outstanding centrepiece for contemporary lounges and living spaces.
